cashew shell-oil which is used in manufacture of varnishes, typewriter rolls, industrial
flooring tiles, gums, inks, oilcloth, paints, water proofing paper, acid and alkali resistant cements, laminating resins and rubber-compounding resins, Oil is uscd for treating cracks on soles of fect and also used for producing synthetic cation-exchange resin for use in treatment of water required for boilers, air conditioning units ice plants, textile, industries etc. India is principal supplier of Cashew Kernels in world markets. Nearly 90% of Internatinal Trade in cashew Kernels and Cashew-shell-oil is monopilised by India.
Leaves, yield tan. Sap from bark is made into indelible ink. Cashew-nut shell liquid is used commerically as phenolic raw material for manufacture of certain resins and plastics. It is used a friction modifer in manufacture of brake-linings., i industrial belting and clutches. Also used in laminating or impregnating material where oil or acid resistance is required.
Other uses include manufacture of liqurs, electrical insulation material, anti-co for metals, water proofing and adhesives. Shell-oil is drying oil, rich source of phenol. High ultility value of oil for industrial purposes is chiefly due to the fact that it polymerises to rubber-like substance under influence of acids and also forms wide range of condensation products with aldehydes.
